Joint Meeting with the Garden Club of Orange
Program :
'Infusing the Garden with Personality'
Guest Speaker :
Tovah Martin
Horticulturist , Author,Freelance Writer, Photo Stylist and Lecturer
Tovah brought her new book, 'A New Terrarium' for the members to purchase and get an autographed copy.
Speaking to the audience which included many guests, Tovah spoke of her love of gardening and creating a place of joy and rest . She asked what people thought of most when they created their gardens and found that color, form, whimsy and smell were some of the elements that went into planning. In the end it is what makes you happy and content that truly infuses the garden with your personality.
A special thank you to the Garden Club of Orange for hosting the event and for having such a lovely sandwich table . The creative centerpiece by Lana Ho had a distinctive St Patrick's Day feel to it. Milford Garden Club provided the dessert selections which were quite delectable.
During Tovah's talk she mentioned many gardens she had been to and people she had met who inspired her . Among them are:
February 2010
A very well attended meeting for this time of year featured the talents of our own Kathrine Neville who spoke of herbs in Elizabethan Times. Handouts with the correct Botanical and common names for the herbs were given , along with a typical layout for a garden . Kathrine detailed the use of the herbs and included many humorous anecdotes in her presentation. Kathrine brought a large demo board with the garden map on it as well. She had beautiful illustrations from a calendar given to her by one of the members for this occasion. A gorgeous centerpiece was given away to the lucky club member whose ticket was chosen!
Nancy Neligon our Horticulture chair, spoke about cultivating the mum. She gave out colorful handouts that were filled with helpful information on how to deal with the usual problems we encounter with mums. She gave us all hope that we can have a lovely garden designed with mums !!
Our luncheon was top notch and everyone on the hostess brigade for this month worked very hard to make it that way. A really nice luncheon ladies. Thank you!!
In addition there were dozens of fabulous garden books that were donated to the club for sale to the members by Jacquie Fowkes and Kathrine Neville. Through their generosity the club's coffers increased substantially. Thank you ladies. And a sincere thanks to all those who lugged them back and forth. A good workout!!
Please remember that next month we will meet in Orange for our joint meeting. If you are unsure as to the location kindly contact one of the officers of the club and they will direct you to the proper location. It is our turn to bring desserts so those that volunteered please do remember to bring your own plates for the sweets to be displayed on . Labels too please for those with dietary restrictions.
